Career Tools for Excellence - Students

Career Tools for Excellence students have successfully completed the course and used their new skills and expertise to further their career paths.

"In the years since completing the Career Tools for Excellence course, I have utilized the skills I learned during the class in a variety of ways. Although the class was intended to help students develop
proficiencies relevant to a career setting, I found them very applicable for collegiate work as well. During my educational experiences, I found that every class at the upper-division and graduate level required group projects and different types of presentations. Students having a strong background with communication, research and problem solving skills, and the ability to work with a variety of people, were more successful with their coursework. In addition, I found the time and project management skills stressed in the Career Tools for Excellence course were just as crucial for students as they were for those in the business world.

After finishing my graduate studies, I continued to utilize these skills in my work with a non-profit organization. The successful completion of job duties at my workplace depends on teamwork and the ability of a diverse group of people to work together in an effective manner to accomplish a variety of goals. In most careers it is not enough to just have knowledge of what the job entails. Employees must demonstrate multi-faceted interpersonal and organizational skills in order to complete tasks in a professional manner and to reach their highest potential within their chosen career. The Career Tools for Excellence course helps give individuals the skills they need to have a successful career instead of a mediocre one."      Nancy Miner Tools I
