Summer 2013 Schedule of classes for the High Sierra Institute at Baker Station

The Yosemite Community College District is proud to announce its summer 2013 Schedule of Classes for the High Sierra Institute at Baker Station.  Courses include field biology, geology, communication in the workplace, creative writing, nature photography, Sierra Nevada wildlife, wildflowers, and more.

The High Sierra Institute (HSI) provides a unique opportunity for students to study at a location of both natural beauty and ecological diversity. HSI courses reflect holistic learning via the integration of academic concepts with place and experience. Students have the option of living on-site, which creates a climate of intellectual exchange and builds strong group dynamics as well as enhances overall learning.

Set in the heart of the Sierra Nevada, the High Sierra Institute, a partnership between The Yosemite Community College District and the USDA Forest Service, offers college credit for a wide variety of courses during the summer.

The Institute is located at Baker Station, a historic field station at 6,200 feet in elevation. The High Sierra Institute occupies a 2.5 acre area accessible to an outdoor classroom of 200,000 acres of high country meadows, forest, ponds and marshes at the foot of Sonora Pass.

A complete Schedule of Classes for summer 2013 may be found online at highsierrainstitute.org. For questions email High Sierra Institute Co-coordinator Dimitri Keriotis at keriotisd@yosemite.edu.
